  1. This was emailed to me from EF:

    Tuesday July 06, 2004

Last week, on Tuesday June 29th, wearing his BodyBuilding.com T-Shirt, Jason Cholewa, a 22 year old student at the University of Rhode Island was arraigned on four counts of felony drug charges in District Court, South Kingstown Rhode Island. The police officers in Narragansett Rhode Island, armed with a search warrant, seized 4,000 pills, dozens of vials, and $29,000. Cholewa is being held without bail and has been charged with three counts of possession with the intent to distribute and one count of possession of a controlled substance. Anabolic steroids and Vicodin have already been identified and other substances have been sent to labs for identification testing.

Of particular interest to our members is the fact that Jason was a popular moderator for the Bodybuilding.com Discussion Boards. Jason posted as Big Red and Big Red HH and was a frequent contributor to the TeenBodyBuilding.com and Bodybuilding.com web sites. Bodybuilding.com has banned him from their boards and apparently, they have deleted all of the posts about his arrest.

Detective Lt. Gerald Driscoll said Jason was a "mid-level dealer." Driscoll added, "We suspect that the source of these drugs is somewhere out of state." Additionally, it was learned that Jason was arrested five years ago for disorderly conduct in Connecticut.

The estimated value of the drugs was only $4,000. Which given the kamikaze cycles that some bodybuilders are taking these days could be considered an amount for personal use. They also found Vicodin. Dealers take note, if you're going to deal roids, don't deal other stuff. It seems that it's the recreational drugs that causes law enforcement to get a lot more serious a lot faster. And of course if someone you deal steroids to starts hounding you to sell meth, ecstasy, or coke, you can be pretty sure they're setting you up.

To convict Jason of dealing, the prosecutor will have to prove that he had intent to distribute. And here's where Bodybuilding.com comes in. At this point, it's safe to assume that Big Red HH's entire Personal Message history has been subpoenaed along with all of his threads on Bodybuilding.com's Discussion Forums. And if not subpoenaed already, it probably will be soon. Hopefully, Bodybuilding.com will hire a lawyer and turn over only Big Red's PM's and Posts -- not the entire forums database and everyone's PM's along with it.

For Jason to get off, he'll probably try to prove that the steroids that were found were for personal use. And as attorney Rick Collins points out in his book Legal Muscle, law enforcement much of the time has no idea how different steroids are from recreational drugs in terms of what would constitute an amount appropriate for personal use. In other words, 100 D-Bol is a lot different than 100 ecstasy. The other way Jason could make his situation better would be to rat out someone or several someones. He could try to plea bargain his sentence down in exchange for names. If he were to go this route, the implications for the members of BodyBuilding.com's Forums could be quite serious. In fact, Detective Lt. Gerald Driscoll said that "This is an ongoing investigation."

    I agree.

    Spybot kicks major @$$.

Another perfect anti-virus is the Kaspersky anti-virus (http://www.kaspersky.com). It's a German-based company but the website can be uploaded in various languages. The funny thing about Kaspersky is that I learned about them from an email that I got on my cyber-rights account claiming that I sent some company a virus infected email, which I didn't.

  3. Choose Your Gym Wisely

    By Matt Danielson

Today we have a wide array of different gyms to choose

from, ranging from the dungeon kinds of gym with

chalkdust covering the free weights to the modern,

high-tech health clubs with spas, a juicebar, a gazillion

aerobics classes and all the latest machines in catchy

    colors.

Of course, the right choice for you depends on who you

are, your goals etc., but there's a few basics that one

should always take into consideration before joining,

    regardless of who you are.

    Checkpoint 1: Atmosphere

This is one of the most important, perhaps the number one

checkpoint: You must enjoy being there. If you walk in there

and feel like an American in Paris, you can forget about

getting optimum results from your training. The hardcore

powerlifter might feel misplaced when all the other

members stop and stare at his non-fashion clothes, just as

the 50-year old guy who hits the weights twice a week

because his doctor said so might feel equally misplaced

among the 300+ lbs monsters in a dungeon down the

street. Simply put: Make sure it's your kind of people, that

the interiors don't give you the creeps and that the gym is

at a comfortable distance from your home.

    Checkpoint 2: Equipment

OK, so you found a few nice places that are "you," so to

speak. Now for the equipment. There should be a certain

balance between free weights and machines, and if the

clerk starts giving you some clever speech about how their

twelve machines is all you need - leave.

If you have a little experience in lifting, you'll recognize a

good machine when you see it. Hammer Strength-kind of

machines are usually good. Don't be afraid to ask other

people in the gym if you're unsure. A few pointers to look

    out for:

1.Does the equipment seem to be well-maintained? Are

there cracks in the pads? Are there lots of taping and bad

soldering to keep the machines together? Do the

foot-plates have two bare spots from thousands of feet

through the rubber on the leg-presses? Do you see any

"Out of Order"-signs anywhere? What you see is what you

can expect for the coming years.

    2. Make sure that it's not only the most popular machines

being present. What do they have for calves? Do they have

a seated legcurl for hamstrings? How about neck and

forearms? Everybody has good chest, back and

ab-machines, so it's the "weaknesses" you have to look

    out for.

    Checkpoint 3: The locker room

Of course, you've already checked the locker room out

under point 1 - if it's icky, go somewhere else. But you

should also have a look at the lockers. Are they safe?

Would you feel comfortable putting a wallet, carkeys and

laptop computer in here unwatched for an hour? Or do you

get the feeling that any kid with a screwdriver could get it

open in 2 minutes? And while we're at it - if there's a sleaze

hanging around in there who offers you something to spike

your training with, so to speak, report it to the police and

inform the gym owner about what happened and that it's

the reason why you are not going to train at his facility. I

believe this kind of economic pressure on the gym owner

is the most effective way to make sure the scum are kept

    out of the gyms.

    Checkpoint 4: Other services

If you're interested in step-up classes in combination with

your weight-training, it's a natural thing to make sure the

gym provides you with the kind of classes you're interested

in - at suitable times and levels. But it's also a good idea to

find out what else they have to offer.

Discounts on clothes and supplements? Massage?

Personal Training? Seminars? It's very competitive out

there, so almost every gym has a few added bonuses - use

it to your advantage! A massage can do wonders to a

troublesome back, a seminar can boost your inspiration for

months ahead, and why not solve the problem with a

Christmas present to your overweight brother with a

3-month gym pass and 10 free sessions with a personal

    trainer?

  4. Same here, Urban Legend. My cyber-rights account has been getting flooded with it for about a year and a half. I used to delete as much as 185 emails in a day. And now, my mailvault account is under attack too.

Very very true. I went to an electronic warehouse store and bought the Norton Internet Security and, so far, have conquered every virus and worm that was thrown my way. It seems that I was constantly picking up a virus or worm every weekend. If you want to buy it at a good price, go to http://www.outpost.com . They have it for $99 but you'll get a $20 rebate and a $30 rebate to mail in.

If you don't want to buy that, go to:

  6. California has alot of Bally's and 24 Hour Fitness centers. In Louisiana, there's alot of French Riviera Spa & Fitness Centers. IMHO, Bally/24 Hour are exactly like French Riviera. As BigMama said in a sense, the employees there aren't certified trainers, just non-certified salespeople. Walking into a FR/24H/Bally is like walking onto a used car lot. They're only there to get your business and your money. They make a commission there, just as a used car salesman.

When I was living in Louisiana, I worked out at French Riviera for a while (that is, in between Gold's Gym openings). I originally signed myself and my (then) girlfriend up for a one year contract. Within a couple of months, I walked in for a workout and the front desk girl began pushing her sales and screwing up my training time. I told her that I wasn't interested. Sometime later, another "salesperson" managed to catch me on the way out and talk me into advancing to the 2 year contract. No more than a month later, a sexy latina salesperson coaxed me into signing up for the V.I.P contract, which is like a 3 year contract but the fees decreases after 3 years.

As I told my girlfriend then, those places are pathetic. It's like watching flies attack raw meat. Only we're the raw meat and they're the flies.
